Local Yacht Clubs, Groups, And Organizations

Ahoy fellow yachters and waterlovers!
If you haven’t quite decided where to pull into port for the summer this year, then hopefully this article will give you some ideas. While it would be impossible to list every port and tributary from Austin to Zimbabwey, there are a few real “Hot Spots” in the world for boating enthuissits everywhere to commune with their fellow sailors.

Beginning with the “Gold Rush State”, two of California’s most popular groups are the Alameda Yacht Club and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club . The Alameda Yacht Club was founded in 1985 and offers its visitors a list of activities that include a bar and several BBQ functions throughout the year. Newport is located on the Balboa Peninsula, between Los Angeles and San Diego. The members here are 1100 strong. The facilities offered here are available to guests on a 24 hour basis, however they do not allow animals on the primesis and cell phones are prohibited within the clubhouse.

For those who might prefer the eastern coastline, Maine houses the Rockland Yacht Club along Penobscot Bay. This port has a bit more history behind it as it was founded in 1927, however there are only 175 members who currently attend, which means this club has more of an elite appeal to it. Events here include a crusing camaraderie in which members get together on the water during selected weekends. The Racing Competition is another way for visitors to expel their pent up energy. One such race takes place on Tuesday nights and there is also a weekend race from June to September.

If you fancy sailing into foreign waters, then England has several very good ports and clubs to choose from. The sites for England’s yacht clubs are sectioned, so Google’s only need know what, so Google’s only need know what it is they want to look up. The RYA is a good place to start as it breaks the country’s most frequented boating ports into regions.
